Tavurvur’s Many Faces

By Kathy Teys

Mischievous boy, sneaking a puff on Daddy’s pipe
On a sun-warmed afternoon with fluffy white clouds and blue sky

Venerable statesman, dominating the seascape
Majestic, commanding, ash billowing above the slate grey water,

Or, vindictive warrior wreathed in fog and great clouds of black ash
Rumbling, threatening, hurling its challenge to the leaden skies
