How to Enter

Design and implement a school curriculum or/and an action plan which includes one or all of the following:

  • a 60 second video
  • a fundraising event for Palms Australia
  • another creative way to spread the word about volunteering with Palms.

Guidelines for entry:

The best entries will:

  1. Utilise materials from Palms' website, including volunteer commUNITY profiles and newsletters;
  2. Discuss different models of aid and development (monetary handouts, giving items, imposing one model across cultures, fair trade, working together in solidarity, etc.);
  3. Introduce global solidarity as a necessary concept in addressing global poverty;
  4. Respect the dignity of all people and all cultures
  5. Include action, such as a fundraising event, to support a particular volunteer placement;
  6. Use a variety of media, teaching or communication styles; and
  7. Reach into the broader community, through an event and/or media coverage
  8. (if a curriculum), clearly indicate how it aligns with education department or Catholic Education Office curriculum standards.

The winner need not have implemented their "action" (eg. fundraising activity) prior to the date of submission, but must indicate an intention to host the activity during 2010.

Terms and Conditions

The competition is open to all residents of Australia and closes on 28th February 2010. The winning entry will be judged by staff of Palms Australia. The judges' decision is final. All entries become and remain the property of Palms Australia for its exclusive use, including, but not limited to, promoting volunteering and providing community education about development. Submitted curricula may be distributed for use to schools across Australia. The individual or school responsible for the materials will be acknowledged in any resources derived from their entry. Palms Australia reserves the right to update or otherwise modify materials at its own discretion.
